Each Kindermusik class is a world of discovery and adventure for children newborn to age 7. Our Time encourages toddlers to uncover an engaging musical world while building confidence, self-control, and communications skills. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, and object identification foster language skills, while creative movement to various musical “moods” develops a sense of balance, timing, and spatial awareness. Listening and turn-taking encourage blossoming social skills.

Away We Go!
Toddlers love to GO! With toddlers’ desire to go comes an attraction to other things that go people, animals, pull toys, tricycles, cars, planes, and the list goes on. “What are things that go?” “How do they go?” “How do they sound when they go?” “Can I go like that?” “Can I make sounds like that?” Guided by these simple questions we will journey through developmentally appropriate activities relating to trains, cars, buses, horses, wagons, airplanes and boats. The two literature books are Shiny Dinah and Giddy-Up! The featured instrument are two harmonicas, one for the adult and one for the child, complete with printed instructions in the “Activity Book.”

Individuality and Independence
Kindermusik Imagine That! takes the preschooler on a musical journey of discovery and exploration…a journey limited only by the power of imagination. Pretend play activities are integrated with music, vocal development, storytelling, movement, and literature to capture the preschooler’s potential to learn and to encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity and individuality.

Toys I Make, Trips I Take
What’s more exciting to a 3-or 4-year-old than a new toy? How about an entire Toy Shop full of toys! A remarkable toy shop, filled with boats, trains, balls, jack-in-the-box and many other toys is exactly what your child will enjoy. While activities are centered on a child’s pretend play and imagination, the unit firmly integrates the learning process by placing a strong musical emphasis on singing, steady beat and ensemble, as well as rhythm and rhythmic patterns. The two literature books are Tippity Tippity Too and If I Had a Big Blue Boat. A specially designed drum is the featured home instrument. book, packet )

Virginia De Vries (West Linn, Oregon) currently teaches preschool and Kindergarten music classes at Sunrise Montessori School, KINDERMUSIK classes in the Lake Oswego and West Linn area of Oregon, and piano classes. She taught a KINDERMUSIK pilot program developed for toddlers, created and taught the preschool music program at Exploration Learning School, and was an elementary classroom teacher. An ECMMA (Early Childhood Music and Movement Association) member since 2000, Jini is also affiliated with KEA, and is certified in Kodaly Level 1.
Jini recently completed 2 years as President of the local KINDERMUSIK teachers’ organization, Greater Portland Association of Kindermusik Teachers and is currently serving as ECMMA NW Regional Representative. Jini also piloted the Kindermusik ABC curriculum at KinderCare in West Linn.
Known to her students as “Miss Jini”, she believes that joyful musical experiences belong in each child’s life. A mother of three, and grandmother of four, Jini believes that music has the power to ignite the unique gifts each child offers to this world. She recognizes that music for children is not about perfection, but about possibilities.
Husband, John, a retired anesthesiologist, is supportive of Jini’s commitments.
An experienced choralist, Jini sings with Valley Presbyterian Chancel Choir and was with the Portland Mary Lee Singers and Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan Society.
Jini has earned a BA in Elementary Education from Hope College in Holland, Michigan, and a BA in Interior Design from Bassist Institute in Portland, Oregon and has completed coursework at Portland State University and Seattle Pacific.
